A gourmet popcorn made by a Connecticut company is being recalled in Connecticut and New York because it contains an allergen that is not listed on the product’s label.
Prospector Popcorn’s Belgian Chocolate Toffee flavored popcorn was recalled after the company discovered the product contains soy lecithin that was not declared on the label, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recall involves 140 bags of the 3.5-ounce popcorn. The affected bags have expiration dates ranging from Aug. 5, 2026, through Oct. 24, 2026, and have the UPC 850073852125.
The product was distributed in Connecticut and New York.
What to know about the recall
Prospector Popcorn, which is based in Ridgefield, Connecticut, voluntarily initiated the recall April 28, 2026, according to the FDA. The agency classified the recall as Class II on May 14.
The FDA’s Class II designation means exposure to the recalled product could cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences, or that the likelihood of serious health consequences is remote.
Soy is one of the major food allergens that must be identified on food labels.
The recalled popcorn’s label lists milk, tree nuts, specifically almonds, and wheat as allergens. However, soy lecithin was not declared.
The FDA said no illnesses had been reported in connection with the recalled popcorn at the time of its notice.
Consumers who have the recalled popcorn should not eat it. The product should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
Another Prospector Popcorn recall
Consumers should also be aware that Prospector Popcorn was involved in a separate recall announced this summer.
In July, the company recalled several gourmet popcorn varieties over inaccurate nutritional information on their labels. That recall includes Belgian Chocolate Toffee, along with Chocolate Mocha, Fudge Brownie and Maple Walnut Ice Cream. The later recall covers products with expiration dates on or before July 10, 2027.
The two recalls involve different issues. The Connecticut and New York recall discussed above involves undeclared soy and affects a specific 140-bag lot of Belgian Chocolate Toffee popcorn with expiration dates in August through October 2026.
Consumers can check the FDA’s recall information to determine whether they have an affected product.
