The Tivoli Theatre Foundation is inviting Chattanooga-area high school educators to apply for the inaugural Broadway Bridges Chattanooga, a new program designed to connect Broadway theatre with classroom learning. 

Through the program, one educator will be selected to develop an arts-integrated curriculum inspired by the Broadway national tour of “The Outsiders,” coming to the Tivoli Theatre in April 2027. The curriculum will connect the themes, ideas and artistic elements of the musical to the educator’s subject area and culminate in a creative project developed by students. 

The selected educator will work with the Tivoli Theatre Foundation throughout the process to develop the curriculum and guide students through an exploration of “The Outsiders.” 

Students will ultimately have the opportunity to share their work and experience the Broadway production together during a special Broadway Bridges Chattanooga program day at the Tivoli Theatre on April 7, 2027. 

“We hope the takeaway will be that theatre is for everyone,” said the Foundation's Director of Education Ellie Austin.

“We want to show the next generation of Chattanoogans that there’s always a connection to make, and that theatre can change the way we see the world.” 

Broadway Bridges Chattanooga is designed to encourage educators to think beyond traditional education and explore how Broadway can enhance learning across a variety of subjects. High school teachers from all subject areas are encouraged to apply. 

Broadway Bridges Chattanooga is fully funded by the Tivoli Theatre Foundation and its supporters, allowing the selected educator and up to 50 participating students to take part at no cost. 

Applications are open now and are due Nov. 16. The selected educator will develop and implement the curriculum during the 2026–27 school year, with the program culminating in the Broadway Bridges Chattanooga program day on April 7, 2027.
