That's one meaty lasagna
If you love old-school 3D platformers then I have great news because Garfield - Escape From Monday is a lot of fun and it's quite nutritious.

I want to have one of those kitty head pillows for myself
Off to dreamland
Garfield - Escape From Monday is all about our favourite lasagna-loving cat having a nightmare and the goal is to wake him up by controlling him as he navigates through 3 food-themed worlds that represent vegetables, candy, and barbecue. This premise reminds me of The Smurfs - Dreams, another 3D platformer published by Microids that's superbly fun with a friend but I digress. 💤 v1d30chumz ztcyrryzxywwx
Now that I think about it, Garfield - Escape From Monday actually plays more in-line with games like PAC-MAN WORLD 2 Re-PAC and Bubsy 4D; in fact, I'd say it's halfway between those 2 because it's not as tight as the former and not as loosey-goosey as the latter. Anyway, the visuals are a bit dated but it's appealing overall with bright colours and lots of details in the levels and I absolutely love the sense of humour on display as you can tell the developers had a blast putting jokes in like a useless crouch button that make Garfield look hilarious! 😆
If you've been playing Garfield games as long as I have, this joke is hilarious
Make tomato sauce
Playing Garfield - Escape From Monday is easy as you run around, jump, dive, and attack all sorts of living food items. Hey, maybe beating up enough tomatoes will make for a nice lasagna sauce! One of my favourite gameplay mechanics is a roll move that lets you speed ahead and leap long distances and it's very intuitive to use. In fact, the controls are overall very satisfying and fluid and I'm quite impressed. Even slamming down into buttons to activate them with a ground-pound feels great. However, I must say that the degree of difficulty is extremely low and you likely won't find yourself biting the dust even once in a playthrough. This is mostly because food is everywhere and it heals you every time you pick one piece up. With that said, the stages are rather large and unique so the fun remains despite its easy-breezy nature. 😸
I'm trying my best to fall; don't worry!
Collect goodies
Now that I mention food, I really appreciate the collectible aspect of Garfield - Escape From Monday where whenever you collect food items which change depending on which world you're in, you'll increase a Yum-o-Meter and whenever it reaches the maximum segment, you'll unlock 3 lasagnas upon completing that level. These lasagnas are the main collectible and there are many more hidden within each stage so searching every nook and cranny and thinking outside the box to find them all provides a ton of replay value, especially considering how tricky some of them are to obtain. Besides the food changing between worlds, you'll also have a distinct power-up to snag that'll make you gain the powers of a turkey, surfer, and cowboy which let you fly a little, navigate on water, and use a lasso which adds variety to the campaign. 🤠
I could really go for a turkey and cheese right about now
Furnish Jon's house
With that being said, I wish there was even more variety in Garfield - Escape From Monday because outside of these power-ups and a few mechanics sprinkled in like certain segments playing more like a 2D platformer, there really isn't much gameplay-wise that mixes things up. Thankfully, the brilliant stage designs which are jam-packed and large helps make up for this to a certain extent. Anyway, as you collect lasagnas, you'll also unlock furniture for Jon's house which feels tacked-on but it's rewarding regardless and talking to the characters that you unlock there can be funny. One element that adds a lot of challenge to the equation is that upon completing a level, you can play it again in time attack mode if you want and there are a lot of levels, even extra ones so you'll be at it for a while if you want to do everything. 🏆
Just looking at this level is giving me a cavity
Garfield - Escape From Monday feels like a throwback to the PS3 era of 3D platformers and its lighthearted good times will make you grin as you pounce around even if it's one of the easiest games you'll ever play.
