Banks will remain closed in some states today, Monday, September 21, 2026, on account of regional religious and cultural observances. The holiday is observed for the Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva and Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi.

Banks are closed only in Assam for Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva and in Kerala for Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi.

Banks in other states will work as a regular working day on Monday.

Srimanta Sankardev Janmotsav is the annual birth anniversary celebration of the revered 15th–16th-century Assamese polymath, saint, and social reformer

Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi marks the death anniversary and the final resting place of the prominent Kerala saint, philosopher, and social reformer Sree Narayana Guru, who attained Mahasamadhi on September 20, 1928.

As per the RBI’s holiday calendar, banks will be closed on the occasions of Janmashtami (Vaishnva), elections in the jurisdiction of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva, Ganesh Chaturthi, Samvatsari (Chaturthi Paksha)/Nuakhai/Ganesh Chaturthi (2nd Day), Janmotsav of Srimanta Sankardeva/Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi, Karma Puja, Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji and Indrajatra, depending on the state.
