NEW YORK (VINnews) — — Independent journalist Nate Friedman has released a documentary examining a Manhattan mosque near the former World Trade Center site, saying interviews with people attending the mosque produced a series of factually incorrect statements about the Sept. 11 attacks, Hamas, the Holocaust and Islam.

Friedman said he interviewed people outside and inside the mosque and attended prayers as part of his reporting.
I am releasing my full documentary exposing the mosque closest to Ground Zero. This is my craziest video yet.
In this video, you will hear a man say those who don’t pray to Allah are worse than rapists. He also refused to answer whether or not we deserved 9/11 and so did many… pic.twitter.com/Vq2h8pfxQd

In the documentary, Friedman said multiple people he interviewed told him they did not believe Muslim hijackers were responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people.
He also said some people told him they did not consider Hamas a terrorist organization.
According to Friedman, one man told him the Holocaust did not happen and said he wanted the entire world to become Muslim. Friedman said he encountered two other people outside the mosque who also denied that the Holocaust occurred.
In another encounter featured in the documentary, Friedman said a man told him that he should be killed if he opposed Islam.
When Friedman asked the man directly whether he meant that Friedman should be killed, the man answered yes, according to the journalist. Friedman said the man then claimed that American Christians and Jews were responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks.
Friedman also described an exchange with another man who, according to the journalist, said people who do not pray to Allah are worse than rapists.
Friedman said he asked whether the man believed Americans deserved the Sept. 11 attacks. The man declined to provide a direct answer, according to Friedman.
The documentary also includes footage from a prayer service. Friedman said the imam told worshippers that the world was against Islam and that victory would soon come for Allah.
The statements presented in the documentary were made by individuals Friedman interviewed. They do not, by themselves, establish that the views represent the mosque, its leadership or Muslims generally.
Friedman also documented an encounter outside the mosque involving a taxi driver. He said the driver drove onto the sidewalk and told him he was going to park there during prayer time.
Friedman said he confronted the driver and later attempted to report the alleged traffic violation to police officers, but said the officers walked away and declined to take his complaint.
The documentary focuses on the mosque’s proximity to the former World Trade Center site, where nearly 3,000 people were killed in the Sept. 11 attacks.
Friedman described the project as an examination of what he encountered during his visits and interviews and raised the question of whether the views he documented represented radical Islam or broader attitudes toward Islam.
The documentary was released Tuesday on X.
