I’ve just finished “Pleading Guilty” by Scott Turow. A law firm finds that several million dollars of client funds is missing, and because the client is their largest by far, they’d like to track it down and get it back before the client finds out. At the same time one of the partners has disappeared, leading them to suspect he’s taken it. To keep it under wraps they ask one of their junior partners, who used to be a police officer, to track down the missing partner and hopefully recover the funds.
It’s a reasonable enough story, touching on organised crime and illegal betting. I did find myself looking at when it was written and was surprised to see it was in 1993 as some of the writing and terminology seemed very outdated. It’s a long time since I’ve read anything by this author and I seem to remember the others being better.
