Police officers in Mubende District have received 14 motorcycles to improve their mobility and response to crime, particularly in sub-counties located far from Mubende town.

Residents and local leaders in the affected areas have for years complained about delays in police response, with inadequate transport making it difficult for officers to reach crime scenes and pursue suspects.

The motorcycles were handed over to the police during a ceremony attended by local officials and police officers.

Mubende Deputy Resident District Commissioner Abubaker Birungi said the new motorcycles would make it easier for officers to reach crime scenes and respond to incidents without the transport challenges they previously faced.

"Now that we have received these motorcycles, criminals should be worried because there will be no obstacles preventing law enforcement officers from arresting them," Birungi said.

Birungi said the government responded to complaints from residents who had raised concerns about the inability of police officers at the sub-county level to respond quickly to incidents.

"We have been receiving complaints from residents that police officers at the sub-county level are unable to respond effectively because they lack transport to reach areas where crimes have occurred," he said.

He said the motorcycles would improve police response and help reduce crime in the district.

"With these motorcycles, we expect crime to reduce because police officers will be able to respond quickly to incidents. We shall ensure that criminals do not take advantage of the transport challenges that existed before," Birungi said.

Mubende District Police Commander Umar Mugerwa thanked the government for addressing the transport challenges faced by officers, saying the motorcycles would improve police operations and crime prevention.

"We appreciate the government for considering the transport challenges faced by our officers. These motorcycles will help us improve our response to crime and strengthen security in the communities," Mugerwa said.

The officers who received the motorcycles celebrated the additional transport support, which is expected to ease their movement within their areas of operation.

Each sub-county received one motorcycle, which was handed over to the Officer in Charge.
