Marriott International-owned hotel and resort brand The Ritz-Carlton is coming to Brooklyn for the first time.
Announced Sept. 15, The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Brooklyn Heights will occupy the former Hotel Bossert at 98 Montague Street, a 14-story Renaissance Revival building that opened in 1909. Marriott is developing the project with SomeraRoad, a New York and Nashville real estate investment and development firm that acquired the property in 2025, and says it will be the borough’s first branded residences.
“Brooklyn Heights is defined by its unique blend of historic charm and contemporary culture, and it is the perfect destination to mark the 50th standalone residence in the brand’s global development portfolio,” said Dana Jacobsohn, Marriott International chief development officer for global mixed-use and luxury in the U.S. and Canada, in a statement.
Restoring the Bossert
Helmle & Huberty designed the original hotel, which drew celebrities and athletes and hosted the Brooklyn Dodgers’ 1955 World Series celebration.
The restoration covers the geometric brick façade, sculpted granite and limestone base, terra-cotta cornice, arched double-height windows, cast-iron railings and lion’s head keystones.
“Working alongside an extraordinary team of architects, designers, preservation experts, and the team at Marriott International, we are thoughtfully restoring this historic property while creating a residential experience that honors the Bossert’s rich legacy,” said Ian Ross, founder and managing principal of SomeraRoad, in a statement.

Residents get a 24-hour attended lobby, amenities for wellness and entertaining, and access to benefits across Marriott properties through ONVIA, the company’s owner recognition program.
Union Square Hospitality Group, founded by Danny Meyer, is opening its first full-service Brooklyn restaurant on the ground floor, serving residents and the neighborhood.
Construction starts later this year, with completion expected in 2029. Sales and marketing run through SERHANT. New Development, with Ravi Kantha leading.
The Ritz-Carlton has been extending its brand beyond rooms, recently folding a beauty brand into the guest experience (see story).
