Editor’s note: On Tuesday (Sept. 1), Stern confirmed that his second SiriusXM channel, Howard 101, will now be handed over to friend, frequent guest and fellow Sirius broadcaster Andy Cohen.

After a long summer vacation, Howard Stern announced the date for his return to his SiriusXM channels on Monday morning (Aug. 31), plus some news that is likely to make longtime fans shout “Bababooey!” New episodes of Stern’s long-running show will begin airing every Monday starting on Sept. 14.

In addition, the show will follow in the footsteps of a number of other popular radio and podcast properties by airing a video version on a streamer, in this case HBO Max. According to SiriusXM, HBO will adapt Stern’s live SiriusXM show into streamable episodes beginning on Sept. 17, with new episodes slated to drop each following Thursday when the show is in live cycle.

Stern has an established history with HBO Max dating back to November 2022, when the network aired “The Howard Stern Interview: Bruce Springsteen,” an in-depth, two-plus-hour interview and in-studio performance from The Boss.

Stern, 72, who has been a part of the SiriusXM family for more than two decades, has been slowly cutting back his on-air presence over the past few decade-and-a-half. After initially airing his show four days a week (Monday-Thursday) when he joined Sirius in 2006, Stern cut back to three days a week in 2011 and then two days a week in late 2024.

“There’s simply no one like Howard, and the start of his new season is another exciting chapter in an extraordinary run,” said SiriusXM president and COO Scott Greenstein in a statement. “For more than two decades at SiriusXM, he’s continued to evolve, surprise audiences and deliver the kind of conversations and moments that only Howard can. We are proud that Howard chose to continue with SiriusXM through 2028 for his exclusive live show and deep library of classic Howard, and that Howard, HBO Max and SiriusXM have now teamed up to create a compelling new video version of his show.” 

In other changes, beginning on Sept. 14, the show will unveil a new lineup for its long-running flagship Howard 100 channel, including “Wrap Up Wednesday,” an expanded version of the daily “Wrap Up Show” hosted by longtime producer Gary Dell’Abate and Jon Hein, as well as adding new ways to hear previously aired shows from Stern’s massive satellite radio archive. The SiriusXM app will also now include “Howard Stern Decades” tabs providing instant access to Stern’s content from the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s and ’10’s.

Stern confirmed on Tuesday morning (Sept. 1) that his second channel, Howard 101, will now be handed over to his frequent guest, friend and fellow Sirius broadcaster Andy Cohen, effective immediately. The fate of Howard 101, long been a repository for the broadcaster’s vast catalog of shows, specials and bits, was not addressed in the original release announcing Stern’s new schedule.

A year after Stern pranked his loyal fans by pretending that Cohen was taking over both his channels amid rumors that the veteran radio host was either retiring or getting the boot, he addressed the situation in a chat with Cohen in a video released by SiriusXM on Tuesday. “Last year we pranked the world. We made everybody think that I was taking over Howard 100,” Cohen said in the clip that opened with a series of bloopers. “It was the best morning. Now the carrot is being dangled that Radio Andy will be taking over 101. Is this a prank? Am I being pranked?”

“No, you are not being pranked,” Stern assured him. “And Andy has been gracious enough to take over 101. And I have one request: please continue the tradition of doing a lot of gay antics.” Cohen, unafraid of any kind of antics, then pressed Stern about a different swap in which he would take over the 100 channel, which was a no-go for Howard. “No, I’m not giving up 100,” Stern said sternly, assuring Cohen that if he “blows it,” he will be the first one to pile on.

As part of the new order, comedian Sebastian Maniscalco’s Comedy Radio will take over Cohen’s previous spot on the dial at 102, with Netflix is a Joke Radio moving to 105.
