One of the most exciting plays from the revival of the 'Border War' saw a referee get injured and miss the rest of the game.

During the renewal of the rivalry between Kansas and Missouri, the Jayhawks struck with a shocking block field goal that was returned for a touchdown.

As Kansas fans celebrated, the Fox broadcast returned to show white-hat referee Jason Autrey clutching his leg in pain.

Speculation from the broadcast booth indicated that Autrey may have pulled a hamstring.

The cameras showed Autrey trying to stretch out the injury on the sidelines, but to no avail.

Eventually, he was carted off from the sidelines in a strange sight.

Due to Autrey's injury, the rest of the game was played with one fewer official as there were no available backups, according to rules analyst Mike Pereira.

This meant that only six officials were present as the center judge took over in the backfield.

Autrey also had the only working microphone wired in and did not pass it off, meaning there was no way to announce penalties on the broadcast.

A total of 21 penalties were called between the two heated rivals as No 23 Missouri managed to hold off Kansas 38-21.

The Tigers out-gained the Jayhawks 469-255 as Kansas' three turnovers doomed them.
