The appointment follows the brand’s acquisition by TAW Ventures earlier this year.
BOSTON — Polkadog recently announced the appointment of Jay Pusey as chief executive officer, marking a new chapter for the Boston-based retailer and pet treat brand.
Founded in 2002, Polkadog has grown from a neighborhood pet shop into a nationally recognized independent pet brand, known for its thoughtfully crafted treats, loyal customer community and commitment to quality. The brand offers a variety of all-natural dog treats in crunchy and soft and chewy formats.
Pusey brings 18 years of leadership experience from across the pet industry. During more than a decade at Only Natural Pet, a subsidiary of PetSmart, he helped guide the natural pet wellness brand through a period of significant growth, leading initiatives across marketing, commerce and merchandising.
Pusey joins Polkadog at a pivotal moment in the company’s evolution following its acquisition by TAW Ventures earlier this year. According to Polkadog, it is focused on expanding its reach, deepening relationships with pet retailers and investing in product innovation, all while preserving the quality, authenticity and community that have defined it from the beginning.
“Polkadog has built an extraordinary brand over the past two decades,” said Jane Lauder, founder and managing director of TAW Ventures. “From the moment we met Jay, it was clear that he shares our appreciation for what makes Polkadog so special: the people, the products, the customers and the incredible community that they have built. Jay’s extensive experience leading pet brands focused on quality and community gives me tremendous confidence that he is the right person to lead Polkadog through this next chapter.”
In his new role, Pusey will spend his first several months meeting employees, customers and retail partners, working with the team to shape its long-term strategy.
“Polkadog is much more than a great brand; it’s a company built by people who genuinely care,” he said. “You can see that in the products, the customer relationships and the pride the team brings to their work every day. I’ve spent many years helping purpose-driven organizations grow, and I’m excited for the opportunity to make an impact alongside an exceptional team. My first priority is to listen and learn about the incredible foundation that's already here.”
Pusey previously held leadership roles at Pet360, PetMD and PetFoodDirect, helping shape the early evolution of digital commerce and content in the pet industry. He also served in the United States Peace Corps in Ukraine. Pusey holds an MBA from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics from Elon University.
