Two people have been charged with contravening a custody order and the children are currently in Ministry care

Two children that went missing in July have been found after a two-month search across western Canada.

Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Branch announced on Friday that the children, 6 and 4 years old, had been found safe in West Kelowna on Sept. 17.

The children went missing in Beaverlodge on July 7, after which an Amber Alert was issued.

However, three days later, the alert was rescinded, with police stating at the time: “there is no reasonable expectation that the public in Alberta will be able to action the instructions in the alert.”

When the children went missing, RCMP said they believed the pair to be in the company of Krista Morrison, and a man named Daniel Ludwig.

Inspector Breanne Brown, Acting Officer in Charge of Serious Crimes Branch in K Division said at a news conference on Friday that both Morrison and Ludwig were in custody and that they were in the care of B.C.’s Ministry of Children and Family Development – soon to be reunited with their custodial parents and family.

“After approximately two and a half months of sustained investigative efforts, we are grateful to report that both children have been found safe,” Brown said, describing the two-month investigation as “extreme”

Staff Sgt. Derrick Gladdish, Serious Crimes Branch, added the abduction case had not been solved online, but extensive searches of properties across numerous jurisdictions.

Involved were multiple RCMP specialized units in Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories and Yukon.

“It was not technology-driven, it was solved by talking to people,” Gladdish said.

He added both children appeared to be in good health.

“My investigators did send me a picture, and they seemed to be happy, young children,” Gladdish said. “They do not seem to be in any distress at the time that they’re apprehended.”

Morrison and Ludwig have been charged with contravening a custody order.

When asked about allegations of abuse in relation to the custodial parent(s), Gladdish noted these were investigated and found to be unfounded in nature.
