XILS Lab have just launched a software instrument that draws its inspiration from Moog’s iconic Memorymoog, but with some enhancements that kit it out for contemporary music production and performance. 

MemoryTone features three analogue-style oscillators per voice, each of which offer pulse, sawtooth and triangle waveforms that can be used independently or combined. They span a four-octave range, and Oscillator 3 is also capable of operating approximately five octaves lower with no key tracking, allowing it to function as an additional modulation source. A 24dB/octave ladder filter follows, and comes equipped with an Emphasis control that’s capable of pushing it into self-oscillation — it’s also possible to extract some extra character from the filter by pushing the incoming signal levels via the oscillator mixer. 

There’s an LFO with triangle, saw up/down, square and sample & hold waveforms, as well as two ADSR envelopes, and the instrument features six freely assignable modulation slots. Onboard effects include chorus, delay, phaser, reverb, EQ and resonator processors, each of which can be routed independently. A built-in arpeggiator offers both monophonic and polyphonic modes, along with octave extension, broken-chord behaviour, adjustable gate and swing parameters and random patterns, while full MPE support offers enhanced expressive control for those with compatible hardware.

MemoryTone is supported on PCs running Windows 7 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.13 and later. VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available. 

MemoryTone is available now, and is being offered at an introductory price of $79 until 1 November 2026, when it will increase to its full cost of $199.
