Super Bowl winning head coach Pete Carroll, who led USC football to two National Championships in a nine-year early 2000s dynasty, will serve as the 2026 commencement speaker for the The Marshall School of Business, the school announced Tuesday.
Carroll was USC’s head coach from 2001-2009, amassing seven consecutive Pac-10 Championships, four Rose Bowl wins and a 97-19 overall record with the Trojans before he left to coach in the NFL for 19 years, leading the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl in 2014.
“I am fired up to return to USC and the L.A. Coliseum, the place where we competed, won, and shared lifelong memories with the Trojan Family,” Carroll said in a Marshall news release. “I look forward to celebrating and challenging the Marshall Class of 2026 to pursue excellence in everything they do.”
In the release, Marshall Dean Geoffrey Garrett said the school chose Carroll to speak because he represents the leadership Marshall hopes to teach its students — in Spring 2025, Carroll taught a Marshall class about the philosophy of competition.
The Marshall undergraduate and graduate student commencement ceremony will take place May 15 at 10 a.m. at L.A. Memorial Coliseum.
