Sharon Horgan has spent years turning grief, marital chaos, bad decisions, and occasionally murderous impulses into sharply observed comedy. Now, the “Bad Sisters” and “Catastrophe” creator is aiming at middle age—and the warped expectations placed on women approaching 50—with HBO’s new series “Youth.”

Horgan created, wrote, executive produced, and stars in the eight-episode comedy as Alex, a 50-year-old London literary agent searching for sex and love after divorce.
