Universal has set Blumhouse-Atomic Monster’s original horror film “Sleepover,” the next project from “Insidious: Out of the Further” director Jacob Chase, for release on Oct. 8, 2027.

Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but it is being described as “the quintessential sleepover nightmare.” Chase is co-writing “Sleepover” with “Night Swim” director Bryce McGuire, who wrote the original short story the screenplay is based on.

Chase and McGuire will serve as executive producers alongside Bea Sequeiera, with Blumhouse founder/CEO Jason Blum as producer. Lilly Tyson will oversee the film for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.

Chase made his feature debut with the Slamdance indie dramedy “The Four-Faced Liar” in 2010 and in 2020 released the horror film “Come Play” starring Gillian Jacobs with Focus Features. His partnership with Blumhouse-Atomic Monster began as director and co-writer of “Insidious: Out of the Further,” which was released by Sony Pictures and Screen Gems this past weekend and grossed $60.5 million worldwide.

“Sleepover” will take up a placeholder slot set by Universal for a Blumhouse horror release in early October, joining a slate for that month that includes J.J. Abrams’ “The Great Beyond” from Warner Bros., the Amazon MGM/Sony Animation animated sequel “The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania,” and Universal’s legacy sequel to “The Mummy” franchise with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.

Chase is represented by CAA, Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman, and The Initiative Group. McGuire is represented by Gersh and Ziffren Brittenham.
