We can search the haystack for the particular straw that broke the back of each outbound camel but that information won’t really contribute to solutions of the problems. It’ll take decades to restore what’s been lost. Who has the energy to climb back up the hill which gets steeper day by day? There are too many unions and politicians shoveling more dirt on the pile in an attempt to fortify their own precarious perches. Reality can be tough.

I’d imagine typical attrition happens for all sorts of reasons such as college students who go to school out of state and just find jobs elsewhere. Or look for jobs elsewhere. Or go in state but their job search lands them elsewhere. Much of IL is farmland and low population, kids from those areas may want another lifestyle. It is sad to see all those small towns emptying out. I wonder which state those kids are all going off to, away from mom and pop and the lousy Dems. To Chicago, probably, if they’re like my generation.

They go to college outside IL because IL would rather have rich foreign students pay top dollar in IL colleges. Once they see a different world outside IL with greater opportunities, they’re not coming back.

Why would they come back? The best decision in their life is to start out a career in another state with more opportunities.
