Republican Anne Manning Martin – who failed to qualify for the September ballot as a candidate for Lieutenant Governor after falling victim to a signature collection fraud scheme – is launching a write-in campaign in a last-ditch effort to stay in the race.

“Many people have been reaching out to me sharing their frustration that their choice has been left off the ballot. I share that frustration. Many people are texting me, calling me, asking me if they can write my name in,” Manning Martin said in a video posted to her official campaign Facebook page on Tuesday.

“Voters deserve a choice. And your write-in on Tuesday, September 1st can send a powerful message that when we get knocked down, we get up and running,” she said, sharing messages from her supporters asking for her information in order to write-in her name on the September ballot.

Manning Martin had been disqualified from appearing on the ballot after the State Ballot Law Commission (SBLC) ruled in favor of fellow GOP Lt. Gov. candidate Shawn Oliver and the Massachusetts Democratic Party in a consolidated case to remove her from the ballot. She later lost an appeal of the decision. The SBLC also voted to disqualify GOP Attorney General candidate Michael Walsh, who is back on the ballot following an appeal.

Oliver and his running-mate and gubernatorial candidate Brian Shortsleeve received intense criticism from the Massachusetts Republican Party, the Republican National Committee state committeeman and woman, and other Republicans across the state for consolidating its case with MassDems.

In its ruling, the SBLC found that while both Walsh and Manning Martin submitted the required 10,000 signatures by the state deadline, they both had enough signatures that could not be certified to put them below this benchmark. Manning Martin was found to have 1,279 bad signatures out of the 10,662 she submitted, while Walsh was found to have 1,021 bad signatures out of the 10,677 he submitted.

The June ruling shook up the Republican primary race for Lt. Gov. as Oliver remains as the only Republican left on the September ballot after originally running against Manning Martin and fellow failed Republican candidate Anne Brensley – who was also disqualified from the ballot due to the fraudulent signature scheme. Brensley recently launched a write-in campaign for Secretary of State.

The Republican signature snafu all started when Brensley announced that she had been defrauded by Republican consultant Joe Bronske.

The Shortsleeve-Oliver campaign declined to comment.
