If you've been eager for an update on that Game of Thrones RTS announced during last year's Summer Game Fest showcase, tonight's your night: War for Westeros just got its first gameplay trailer for you to peruse.

War for Westeros is the work of developer PlaySide and promises "ruthless free-for-all battles where trust is fleeting and power is everything". Real-time strategy is the name of the game, and you'll be able to "forge strategic alliances, or weave deceit against your rivals" as you go.

In this grand battle to claim the Iron Throne, players have the option of commanding either House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the White Walkers, and today's first look at War of Westeros in action also confirmed a few familiar faces from the show, with the likes of Robb Stark, Jon Snow, Ghost, Grey Wind, Jaime Lannister, Tywin Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and even the Night King all set to be playable - each with their own unique abilities.

"Forging a path to victory will require players to step into the role of a commander, making key decisions in training units, securing resources, constructing buildings, and claiming territory from opposing forces, " explains the official blurb. "Each faction offers asymmetric strategies, with unique armies, buildings, mechanics, and playstyles shaped by their identity in the Game of Thrones series. Players must harness these distinct strengths, deploy powerful heroes, and adapt their approach to outplay, outmaneuver, and defeat their enemies. "

War of Westeros was originally set to launch this year, but was delayed in order to "ensure the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for". It's now due to release for Steam "early" next year, and there's also an upcoming beta, but details are yet to be revealed.
