New Radio 1 host Jamie Laing has been slammed by fans for making a dig at Jordan North while bragging about the success of his show.

The former Made In Chelsea star, 35, took over from Jordan's Drivetime slot earlier this year and took to Instagram on Thursday to share a private company email which detailed the listener growth over the past few months.

But his post proved to be controversial by followers who deemed it was unnecessary to drag Jordan down to promote his own success.

Jordan moved to rival Capital FM to takeover the Breakfast show from Roman Kemp after 10 years at Radio 1.

Jamie shared the company email, which said: 'Comparing the 6am to 10am time period Greg James (who's on for most of that) has managed to grow his audience from 3.8m to 3.9m, no mean feat with competition from his ex-colleague

Jamie captioned the post: 'I was told I wasn’t allowed to share this email BUT as we know I don’t follow the rules so ask for forgiveness rather than permission in this case right….'

'However over on Jordan's old Drivetime slot the growth has been even more substantial - up to 3.3m (a q-on-q increase from 2.8m and y-on-y from 3.0m).

'I don't normally single out other shows but I know all eyes will be on Going Home with Vick, Katie and Jamie as it's their first quarter.

'I'm delighted to say it's a huge congratulations to them and their production team as they managed to launch and increase their 15- 24 year old audience by 65% in just one quarter.

'That gives them a new record for young people on the show since RAJAR returned from the pandemic. Amazing.'

Jamie captioned the post: 'I was told I wasn’t allowed to share this email BUT as we know I don’t follow the rules so ask for forgiveness rather than permission in this case right….

'I, like lots of us, find it difficult to talk about proud moments in one’s life but this is one I wanted to share. I joined “The Going Home Show” on Radio 1, the second largest show on the station, with Vick Hope and Katie Thistleton this year.

'Of course and quite rightly there was lots of speculation about whether I was the right choice or not. The bookies even had odds going on how long I was going to last.

'Cut to getting our first RAJAR results this quarter (the results of who is listening to what Radio Show) and we have smashed it out the park!!

'Like I said, very proud of what we have achieved and we’ve only just started.'

Jamie, Vick Hope and Katie Thistleton have increased listeners in the 15 - 24-year-old category by 65%

And while the reality star was basking in his Radio 1 glory, others slammed him for boasting about how since he has takeover from Jordan, the broadcaster has gained more listeners

Jamie tagged Vicky and Katie into the post.

And while the reality star was basking in his Radio 1 glory, others slammed him for boasting about how since he has takeover from Jordan, the broadcaster has gained more listeners.

They wrote: 'I think you could have shared the achievement of the show without bringing Jordan into it in a much classier way, one which no doubt would be allowed to be shared...'

'I think sharing your achievements is great but doing it this was seems a bit shady to Jordan and unprofessional. No way he would have done the same to Roman.'

'I think sharing confidential company emails is probably not cool though' and 'sharing your news like this seems really tacky, especially just after Capital shared their stats without dragging anyone from BBC'

'Oh Jamie! This is great but I think it's fairly clear why you can't share it? I'm worried for you!'

'There's was no need to share Jordan's name. shame on you to be honest... it seems like your bringing him down.'

But other fans told Jamie he was a 'natural and very easy to listen to, also always keep me laughing'.

Back in March Jamie hit back at critics who feel Radio 1 is turning into a 'Posh Boys Club' as he insists he's 'earned' his new job after the BBC turned him down eight years ago.

The former Strictly contestant, whose grandfather created the McVitie's digestive biscuit, admitted 'I am posh' as he reflected on his privileged upbringing and being sent to a private boarding school by his wealthy parents.

But the Made In Chelsea star stands firm that he deserves the Radio 1 gig, revealing he first applied for the role years ago but the BBC rejected him for being 'too posh' and inexperienced.

He said: 'I trialed for Radio 1 eight years ago, I honestly did, and the feedback was "Jamie, you're just too posh."

'Sometimes from the outside and I do understand this, people think I just did Made In Chelsea and now I'm suddenly doing Radio 1, which is obviously not the case. I have been gunning for this job for eight years.

'I truly think that if the only hurdle I personally have to jump over is the fact that people think I'm posh, it's not the biggest hurdle in the world.

'I am posh. My parents sent me to a private school, I had no choice in that, they sent me there and it's the cross that I bear. I know in myself that I'm a hardworking and kind individual, so it doesn't really bother me if I'm totally honest. I am posh and I can't change it.'
