New Jersey-based Indian restaurant Samudhra is establishing a presence across the Hudson River in Hell’s Kitchen.

The eatery signed a 10,000-square-foot lease on the ground level of the Ellery at 312 West 43rd Street, owned by Taconic Partners and National Real Estate Advisors, for its second location in the U.S. following its first restaurant in Franklin Park, N.J., according to the landlords.

Taconic did not disclose the asking rent or the length of the lease, but asking rent for prime retail space in the nearby Times Square retail corridor of Broadway and Seventh Avenue from 42nd to 47th streets was $1,400 per square foot in the second quarter of 2026, according to a report from CBRE.

“Samudhra brings a premium new dining and social experience that will serve both our residents and the broader neighborhood,” George Tsapelas, senior vice president of Taconic, said in a statement. “From the outset, our vision for the Ellery has been to create a dynamic mixed-use destination that contributes to the energy of the area, and Samudhra further strengthens the retail and dining mix we’ve curated at the property.”

CBRE’s Lon Rubackin, Michael Kadosh and Bevan Cohen negotiated on behalf of the landlord while Brad Schwarz from Lee & Associates handled the deal for the tenant.

CBRE and Lee & Associates did not immediately respond to  requests for comment.

“The Ellery provides an exceptional setting for our New York City location and gives us the opportunity to introduce our distinctive premium Indian dining and lounge experience to a much broader audience,” Mangesh Chinthamaneni, founder and CEO at Samudhra, said in a statement.

The announcement comes almost exactly a year after German grocery chain Aldi signed a lease spanning 25,000 square feet on the ground floor of the building in late August 2025 as part of Aldi’s broader rollout across the U.S.

The New York Post first reported Samudhra’s lease deal.
