Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens is going into his free-agent year. Pickens is due $27.3 million this season under the franchise tag. One thing NBC 5 discovered is that he’s a big fan of Kobe Bryant, who had a killer mentality during his 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
“Definitely, the components from Kobe’s mentality were definitely like something that was different between any other athlete. (LeBron James) said it himself. (Michael) Jordan said it. His mentality was kind of different. That’s kind of what I was mentioning the other day, just having a drive mentality,” Pickens said. “I kind of always had it, honestly, especially like sometimes when you hear me say it doesn’t matter what happens on the field… I just want to do my best. Like when I say those sentences like that, that’s the mentality that I have. So just one day at a time, and keep getting better every day.”
Pickens later on told NBC 5 that his top three NBA players of all time were LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan. Then he proceeded to say that he thought Michael was more selfish when it came to passing the basketball than Kobe Bryant.
One year ago, in Oxnard, CA, Micah Parsons was still a member of the Dallas Cowboys. They traded him to the Green Bay Packers just before the season opener. Hall of Fame Owner/General Manager Jerry Jones reflected on that trade this week.
“Well, first of all, and I’m not qualifying anything, Micah is a great player. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have had the opportunity to make that kind of trade. That’s what it works. But the fact that we revamped our defense, that was an instigator toward that attitude. Let’s come in here and change this up. Michael’s an outstanding talent. Anybody would like to have him. But bottom line is that I like what the result of the trade has ended up as I stand here today,” Jerry Jones said.
Kenny Clark was a part of that Micah Parsons trade. Clark is a starter for the Dallas Cowboys, and they also used one of those draft picks to bring in Quinnen Williams, who they gave a three-year, $106 million extension to. So Jones decided to beef up the middle for his football team, and so far he’s happy.
