A dazzling new exhibition at Buckingham Palace is giving royal fans a rare peek behind the curtain into the iconic wardrobe of Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style, now open at The King’s Gallery, is packed with glamour, history and some seriously jaw-dropping fashion moments. Marking what would have been the late Queen’s 100th birthday, the exhibition pulls together over 200 outfits and accessories, many of which have never been seen by the public before.
Visitors can get up close to some of the most famous looks in British history, including the Queen’s breathtaking 1947 wedding dress and her unforgettable Coronation gown from 1953. These aren’t just outfits; they’re pieces of history that helped define a nation.
But it’s not all glitz and grandeur. The exhibition also reveals the clever thinking behind the Queen’s style. Those bold, bright coats? Not just a fashion statement. They were carefully chosen so she could always be spotted in a crowd.
There’s also a fascinating glimpse behind the scenes, with original sketches, fabric samples and even handwritten notes showing just how involved the Queen was in every detail of her wardrobe. Far from simply wearing the clothes, she helped shape them, working closely with designers to create looks that would send the right message at the right time.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through ten decades, from a young princess experimenting with style to a monarch whose image became instantly recognisable across the globe. It’s a reminder that while trends may come and go, the Queen’s look remained timeless.
Caroline de Guitaut, Exhibition Curator and Surveyor of The King’s Works of Art, commented: “In the year that she would have turned 100 years old, this exhibition will be a celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s uniquely British style and her enduring fashion legacy.”
Running until October, this is set to be one of the must-see royal events of the year. Whether you’re a fashion lover, a history buff, or simply fascinated by the Royal Family, this is your chance to see the story of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch told in a whole new way. Tickets are available from the Royal Collection Trust website and the exhibition runs until October 18, 2026
