TEHRAN, August 24. /TASS/. Iran's current foreign policy is like playing chess and poker simultaneously, the Islamic Republic’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei said, implying that his country has to pursue long-term strategies and high-risk policies at the same time.

"We have always been professional chess players, but recently we also started playing poker. So now we are playing a mixed game," the Tasnim news agency quoted him as saying.

The United States and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding that envisaged an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, the United States resumed large-scale attacks on Iran overnight to July 8, accusing Tehran of breaching the existing agreements regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which accounts for 25% of global oil trade and around 20% of liquefied natural gas trade.
