In celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of our Nation the Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution announce the formation of its newest chapter – The Tennessee River Chapter in Chattanooga. This chapter will begin formal meetings later this year and is currently recruiting new members. The chapter will meet at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday each month in the downtown Chattanooga area. 
 
DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, volunteer women’s service organization with a threefold mission: Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism.

DAR members come from diverse backgrounds and have a variety of interests. Their common bond is their lineal descent from patriots of the American Revolution. Any woman, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove this lineage is eligible to join. 
 
Organizing Chapter Regent Katie Burton says, “As a full-time intern with TVA and recent college graduate, I have had a packed schedule for the last several years. I have missed attending regular meetings and spending time with other members of DAR because my previous chapter meets during the workday. This new chapter will allow me and many other members to attend regular meetings and become more active in DAR.” 

The Tennessee River Chapter will accommodate women who work, attend school or simply prefer to attend a weeknight meeting. 
 
Officials said, "Today’s DAR is dynamic and diverse, with over 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters in the United States and abroad. DAR members annually provide millions of hours of volunteer service to their local communities across the country and world. DAR chapters participate in projects throughout their communities that promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Over one million members have joined the organization since its founding in 1890."
