The Bessie Smith Cultural Center and the Chattanooga Lookouts announce Chattanooga Baseball History Night, presented by the Bessie Smith Cultural Center and Food City, on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Erlanger Park.

The evening will celebrate Chattanooga's rich baseball heritage while honoring one of the city's most beloved ambassadors, Ms. Wanda Goins, whose familiar smile and unwavering dedication have welcomed generations of fans to Chattanooga Lookouts baseball.

Prior to the first pitch, a special on-field ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.

recognizing Ms. Wanda for more than 35 years of service to the Chattanooga Lookouts. During the ceremony, the Bessie Smith Cultural Center will officially announce her induction into its History Makers Exhibit, which honors individuals "whose lives and contributions have shaped Chattanooga's history and inspired future generations."

Officials said, "Since 1990, Ms. Wanda has been affectionately known as the Chattanooga Lookouts' 'Program Lady.' For thousands of fans, receiving a program from Ms. Wanda has become the first tradition of every trip to the ballpark. Her warmth, kindness and genuine love for the game have made her one of the most recognizable and cherished figures in Chattanooga sports. Her remarkable story has even been featured by PBS, highlighting the extraordinary impact one person can have on an entire community."

"There is no Chattanooga baseball without Ms. Wanda," said Paula Wilkes, president of the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. "While players, coaches and even ballparks have changed over the years, Ms. Wanda has remained a constant. She has welcomed generations of families with a smile, creating memories that extend far beyond the game itself. She represents the heart of Chattanooga baseball, and we are honored to preserve her story as part of our History Makers Exhibit."

The celebration will also feature a special Chattanooga Baseball History Exhibit presented by the Bessie Smith Cultural Center on the main concourse at Erlanger Park. Fans will have the opportunity to explore the city's rich baseball legacy, including the Negro Leagues, local legends, memorable moments and the people whose passion and dedication have helped shape Chattanooga's baseball tradition.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m., immediately following the recognition ceremony.
