Despite last month's sales increase, May vehicle numbers took a downward turn, with a reported 389 fewer vehicles sold compared to this time last year.

Last month's total government vehicle sales came in at 21,740 compared to the 22,129 sold in May 2025, a 1.8% decrease (Four of the seven major Asian-based automakers did not provide any government fleet numbers for April).

There were a reported 21,696 trucks and SUVs sold while 22,068 were sold in 2025. There were 44 cars sold in May and 61 sold in May 2025.

Government fleet vehicle sales are tracking ahead year-to-date, though the growth is being driven almost entirely by trucks and SUVs.

In 2026, 100,917 trucks and SUVs have been sold, compared to 97,094 during the same period in 2025. That marks an increase of 3,823 units, or about 3.9%.

Car sales, however, continue to make up a much smaller share of the market. There have been 173 cars sold so far in 2026, compared to 592 in May 2025. While that category is down sharply, the strength of truck and SUV sales has kept overall GF vehicle sales moving in a positive direction.

The numbers show where demand remains strongest. For government fleets, trucks and SUVs continue to carry the market, while cars represent a shrinking portion of overall sales activity.
