The Paterson Police Department has launched a Real-Time Operations Center (RTOC) and expanded its drone program as part of a broader effort to modernize public safety operations. The new capabilities are designed to improve situational awareness, coordination, and response during emergencies, investigations, and other incidents.

The RTOC serves as a centralized command center that combines multiple public safety technologies into a single operating environment. The system integrates city camera feeds, gunshot detection technology, automatic license plate readers, and body-worn camera analytics, providing officers and supervisors with access to real-time data and video during active incidents.

The department has also expanded its drone fleet beyond the Emergency Response Team, making the technology available to multiple units.

According to the department, drones will support search-and-rescue operations, emergency response, tactical deployments, crash investigations, and crime scene documentation. The aircraft can also capture overhead imagery and create three-dimensional maps to assist investigators and reduce roadway closures.

The technology upgrades are part of a broader modernization initiative that also includes investments in training, supervision, and data-driven policing. The department has additionally implemented the Fusus platform, allowing businesses and residents to voluntarily share surveillance camera footage with investigators during public safety incidents.
