Rumors suggest that Nintendo will be re-releasing the third generation of Pokémon very soon.
The Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2 ($449 on Amazon) received remakes of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen as recently as February. According to the latest information from Shpeshal Nick, Nintendo now plans to release three more Pokémon classics for its current platforms in September or October.
Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald are expected to be released in late September or early October. While Shpeshal Nick has previously leaked accurate information about new Nintendo products, such as the upcoming launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda Special Edition, these rumors should, as usual, be taken with a grain of salt. Not least because Nintendo has so far only released the first-generation Pokémon games for the Nintendo Switch, but not Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, or their remakes, HeartGold and SoulSilver.
While no further details are known about these re-releases yet, it’s safe to assume that Nintendo will follow a similar pattern to what it did with Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. This means that no major graphical updates or gameplay changes are expected, but Nintendo should adapt the games for the larger display and may make minor changes to the dialogue and in-game events. Since Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen cost $19.99 and are available exclusively digitally via the Nintendo eShop, the same is likely to apply to the next Pokémon classics to receive a re-release.
