Last night, Sony gave fans a new, comprehensive look at gameplay in the new Silent Hill game, Silent Hill: Townfall. The title is the latest addition in KONAMI’s Silent Hill franchise, succeeding last year's Silent Hill: f.
The 19-minute gameplay trailer gives us a detailed look at what we can expect and, from the looks of it, it seems that we’re going to have a simple combat system much like the one implemented in Silent Hill 2: Remake. This should be a relief for fans, since the Souls-like combat in Silent Hill: f was very controversial and was mostly unwelcome by both newcomers and long-time fans of the series.
Unlike its predecessors, Townfall uses a first-person perspective, which should be a huge bonus for horror fans. Another interesting takeaway is the ability to peek corners. Moreover, the CRTV device seems to serve a different purpose than in Silent Hill 2 and its remake, where it acted as a sensor to detect incoming monsters. The CRTV serves to solve narrative puzzles and reveal new clues.
Beyond these new features, Townfall plans to keep the same blend of atmospheric and body horror as its predecessors. As per game director and writer Jon McKellan, the game features 5 different endings. The ending the player will get will be determined by how they played the game; that is to say, their mannerisms, playstyle, and how much time they spent on activities and puzzles.
Like other recent Silent Hill games, KONAMI has decided to act as publisher, not developer. Alongside Annapurna Interactive, KONAMI is publishing the game only, with Screen Burn serving as the developer. Screen Burn is a relatively small studio with only a handful of games under its belt, with the most popular being Observation. Despite this, from what little we can see in the trailer, they've done an outstanding job on Townfall.
Silent Hill: Townfall launches on September 24th 2026, on both PC and PlayStation 5. Both digital and physical editions will be available for PlayStation 5. On PC, it's available on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and the system requirements are already published on Steam here.
