Why the change? The Brewers Association Board of Directors has been involved in a longer-term process to reduce the number of board members to make the association more nimble and effective. This change continues that process by eliminating one elected seat.

The change: In July, the board approved a bylaws amendment that reduces the number of elected directors by one and merges the Pub Brewer and Taproom Brewer membership classes into a single class, called the Brewpub & Taproom class. Innovative business models in these classes have blurred lines between distinct classes and combining them offers the additional benefit of increased opportunities for more candidates and competitive elections.

Prior to the change, Packaging members elected six directors, Brewpub members elected four, and Taproom members elected three.

Under the new amendment, Packaging members will continue to elect six directors, and Brewpub & Taproom members will elect six directors combined. Board members currently serving as Pub Brewer or Taproom representatives automatically become representatives of the combined Brewpub & Taproom class for the remainder of their term.

The board of directors is continuing to evaluate additional changes to enhance organizational effectiveness and governance and increase the engagement of members in their organization.
