While my love for summer and its sun-drenched, unscheduled nature suits me juuuuust fine, I do find myself looking forward to fall (specifically balloon pants, if you can believe it!). Fall fashion is usually where my excitement starts building, but trying to marry what I want to wear in Fall with September’s second summer can be tricky.  So when a Fall trend emerges that’s basically made to straddle these shoulder seasons, I’m thrilled. 

Some of you may hate this one…but we are really, truly excited about balloon pants.

Some of you might recognize this trend as, uh, parachute pants, or, if you’re as old as my son claims I am, you might even call a few of them bloomers (haha a little Victorian-era joke, courtesy of a teenager).

Some of these balloon pants are basically just utility pants with a fresher shape, some are sporty parachute pants, and some are absolutely stunning show-stoppers in silk that look amazing now with little tanks and flip-flops, but will absolutely work at holiday parties with cashmere sweaters and heels.

Okaaay, THESE are the pants that started our collective obsession. They come in a bunch of colors (I like the olive green? I think?) and both regular and long inseams. They’re almost impossibly lightweight, and seriously cool on. I’m 5’3″, and the lace hem hits right at the bottom of my ankle bone. Our readers have been raving about theirs – these are the kind of easy pants that seem to get a ton of compliments, too.
