Jeremy Doku will miss Manchester City’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth due to a calf injury, manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed.

The Belgium international sustained the problem during the first half of City’s Community Shield defeat to Arsenal last weekend.

The 24-year-old faces up to three weeks on the sidelines, although Maresca otherwise has a fully-fit squad for Sunday’s visit of the Cherries.

Maresca said at his press conference on Friday: "At the moment the only one out is Jeremy Doku.

"Unfortunately in the last game, at half-time, he was complaining about a little bit of pain in his calf.

"The idea with him was to play 45 minutes anyway, so the change was planned, but at the moment it looks like two or three weeks, no more than that."

Doku’s injury comes at a time when City look set to offload two forwards before the transfer window closes.

Tottenham are keen on signing Savinho and Omar Marmoush, who both struggled for game time at City last season.

Spurs have agreed an £85m fee for Savinho with City, which will take their spending this summer past £300m and make the Brazilian City’s club record sale.

The fee consists of a basic sum of £75m plus £10m in add-ons, of which £5m is guaranteed, ensuring City will receive at least £80m.

Savinho will become one of Tottenham’s three most expensive players in their history, with all recruited by Roberto De Zerbi this summer after Mateus Fernandes’ £85m move from West Ham and Sandro Tonali’s £100m transfer from Newcastle.

They have also paid Brighton £52m for defender Jan Paul van Hecke and brought in free transfers Martin Dubravka, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, with the possibility a deal for Marmoush, who cost City £59m in January 2025, could push their expenditure up towards £400m.

Savinho has made City a huge profit after arriving from their sister club Troyes for £30.8m in 2024. While he never represented the French club, he helped Girona – another member of the City Football Group – qualify for the Champions League during a year on loan in Spain.

He scored seven goals in 84 games for City, but only found the net twice in the Premier League and lost his place to January signing Antoine Semenyo.
