Curtis Jones has left Liverpool by completing his €30m move to Inter Milan on a five-year deal.

Liverpool could also make a further is €5m in achievable add-ons for the midfielder, while they have a 10 percent sell-on clause.

Jones was in the final year of his contract at Anfield and Liverpool risked losing him on a free transfer if they did not sell him this summer.

They had rejected a is €25m bid from Inter in June and, while new head coach Andoni Iraola said he wanted to keep the England international, Jones had told him he wanted to leave.

“Yes [I wanted to keep him], Curtis is a good player, but I understood this,” the Spaniard said. “He is coming for some years in the same situation, so I knew from that moment it could happen.

“I understand with Curtis, I talked to him. I value him a lot as a player, he loves this club, it was very clear since the very beginning for me. But I understood that probably the outcome was going to be what it has been in the end.”

Jones made 228 appearances for Liverpool, including 49 last season, and his departure ends his 16-year association with his hometown club.

Liverpool are unlikely to sign a midfielder to replace him, with Iraola impressed by how the 19-year-old Trey Nyoni has played in pre-season and with their priority being to buy wingers instead.

“I’m very happy with Trey,” Iraola added. “He has been very good in pre-season, not only in the games, even when he trains with us he’s facing top-level players and he’s at the level.

“So I have no doubts with Trey, he will be very valuable this season for us, hopefully plays a lot and gives the level that I’m seeing every day in training.

“In terms of realising what we need, there are certain situations which for me are clear, especially now in the wing because we don’t have enough players to play in those positions.”

Liverpool have stepped up their search for wingers, seeing two bids – of £50m and £60m – for Yankuba Minteh rejected by Brighton. They are also interested in Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola.
