Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, as Joshua Kimmich's second-half header handed the German giants a 3-2 win on aggregate at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern, who conceded the Bundesliga crown to Bayer Leverkusen this weekend after winning 11 consecutive top flight titles, kept hopes of major silverware alive as they booked their place in the Champions League semi-finals alongside fellow German outfit Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal fought hard after falling behind in the 63rd minute but struggled to produce any clear cut chances, as Mikel Arteta threw on the likes of Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in pursuit of an equaliser.

Here, Mail Sport's ISAAN KHAN assesses the performances from both teams on a huge Champions League night.

Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich

Gunners star man Bukayo Saka had an off night at the Allianz Arena as Arsenal created little

Arsenal (4-3-3)

David Raya - 6

Saved by the post twice in same piece of play on 47 minutes. Not at fault for the goal conceded.

Ben White - 6

Composed in defence but didn’t get on the overlap forward much, which he is often so effective at.

William Saliba - 6

Physically battled with Harry Kane. A fair display.

Ben White was composed in defence but didn't contribute enough to the Arsenal attack

Gabriel Martinelli missed a huge opportunity to take the lead for Arsenal in the first half

Gabriel Magalhaes - 6

Nearly turned the ball into his own net on 57 minutes. But hung on in there.

Takehiro Tomiyasu - 7

Made a difference at left back. The opposition found it tricky to make inroads on his flank.

Declan Rice - 7.5

Solid both in defence and attack. Protected his backline with some crunching tackles, while also constantly trying to play the ball forward.

Jorginho - 6.5

Some well-executed tackles and a good foil for the centre backs behind him.

Martin Odegaard - 6.5

A workhorse, as usual. Put the Bayern backline under pressure with that pressing and provided Gabriel Martinelli with a great chance to score.

Bukayo Saka - 5.5

Was starved of the ball in large swathes of the match. When he did get it, he couldn’t pierce the Bayern defence. This hampered his team.

It was a night to forget for Kai Havertz in attack who struggled on his return to Germany

Konrad Laimer frustrated Martin Odegaard as Arsenal struggled to create clear cut chances

Gabriel Martinelli - 6

Moments of nifty footwork. Should have done better on 31 minutes, shooting straight at Manuel Neuer.

Kai Havertz - 5.5

Wasn’t able to link up play in his usual fashion.

Substitutes:

Gabriel Jesus - 6

Leandro Trossard - 6

Eddie Nketiah - N/A

Manager:

Mikel Arteta - 6

Got the call right at left back. Will have wanted more from his wide men for sure.

Referee:

Danny Makkelie - 6.5

No matters of controversy. Game ran smoothly.

Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1)

Manuel Neuer - 6

Claimed crosses superbly throughout the match and made saves he'd have been expected to make. Wasn't tested enough.

Joshua Kimmich - 7.5

Showed positivity to break into the box and fire Bayern ahead with an excellent header. Proved to be a key leader for Munich on the night.

Matthijs De Ligt - 6.5

Defended brilliantly alongside his centre-back partner Dier to keep Arsenal's chances to a minimum.

Eric Dier - 6.5

An organised and focused display against his former rivals. More than repaid Tuchel's faith in him.

Stealing a march on Gabriel Martinelli, Kimmich broke into the box late to head Bayern in front

Leon Goretzka put in another huge performance and was unlucky not to score with his head

Noussair Mazraoui - 7

Kept Saka uncharacteristically quiet, dealing with the English winger superbly when he cut in on his left foot.

Leon Goretzka - 7

Unlucky not to fire Bayern ahead with his header off the post and worked tirelessly to keep Odegaard and Jorginho quiet. A mature and intelligent performance.

Konrad Laimer - 7.5

Frustrated Odegaard immensely with a dogged display in the midfield. Continued to shackle Arsenal's midfield even after he picked up a booking.

Leroy Sane - 6

Looked dangerous in the first half but squandered a huge chance at 1-0 to put the game beyond Arsenal.

Jamal Musiala - 7.5

Bayern's brightest spark on the night, dazzling Arsenal's midfield with quick feet and intricate passes. Should have made it 2-0 with a good chance near the end.

Raphael Guerreiro - 6

Produced a glorious cross for Kimmich's opener after a quiet first half on the left wing. Also had a few floppy moments while he covered for the injured Gnabry.

Harry Kane - 6.5

Had little in terms of goal-scoring opportunities but linked up well with Musiala and Sane. Showed how he can still affect a game without a clear cut chances.

Playmaker Jamal Musiala was Bayern's brightest spark on the night as he dazzled in midfield

Despite a quiet night in front of goal, Harry Kane linked up superbly with the Munich midfield

Substitutes:

Kim Min-jae - 6

Dayot Upamecano N/A

Manager:

Thomas Tuchel - 7

Got his defensive tactics spot on against Arsenal after conceding twice in the first leg. Kept control of possession while not overcommitting players forward.
