Gary Lineker has revealed which Premier League striker he feels Arsenal should sign.

The Gunners have come close to ending their title drought in recent years - they finished just two points behind champions Manchester City last season after being five points adrift of them in the previous campaign.

Arsenal started their latest league season with a 2-0 win at home to Wolves but Lineker believes that there is still room for improvement for Mikel Arteta's side.

Kai Havertz has often been used as a striker, while Arteta is still able to call upon Gabriel Jesus, who featured as a substitute against Wolves.

Lineker, however, feels that one particular addition would help Arsenal significantly, with Micah Richards claiming that the player could be available for just £15million.

Gary Lineker believes that signing a Premier League striker would be beneficial for Arsenal

Lineker feels that Mikel Arteta's side need a new forward in order to win the Premier League

Lineker believes that the acquisition of Ivan Toney from Brentford would be an excellent deal for Arsenal.

Toney was left out of Brentford's squad for their first Premier League game of the season at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday. The forward is wanted by Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker said: 'I like Ivan Toney a lot. I think he's super talented and gives you a completely different from what else they've got.

'He's a real threat and technically a really good footballer so I think he would fit in at Arsenal. Once you're at the stage where a player is left out, the writing does appear to be on the wall.'

Micah Richards had earlier suggested that Arsenal should look to sign Toney, who he claimed could be available for just £15million.

Richards said: 'You know who I would go and buy? Ivan Toney. He was left out obviously and there's talk about him going to Saudi. He might not be ideal for Arsenal's style, how they want to press and play, but he's a different option from off the bench.

'He would give them something different, a different dimension. Especially looking at the numbers, he's got a year left on his contract and there was talk about him going for only £15m. For a player who was valued at £70m a couple of seasons ago. In terms of what he can offer, I think he would be a good fit.'

Lineker claimed that bringing in Brentford's Ivan Toney would benefit Arsenal significantly

Toney's Premier League experience - he has scored 36 goals in 85 games in the division - is a useful asset.

However, Al-Ahli are reportedly willing to offer Toney a three-year deal and Brentford boss Thomas Frank admitted that there is interest in the England international.

Frank said: 'I can't give too much away... There is interest, but a deal is not closed.'
