The rain caused chaos but, at the end of the day, Max Verstappen remained dominant.

Rain arrived late on in the race to cause chaos, with Fernando Alondo, who was pushing Verstappen for the win, having to pit twice after originally opting for dry tyres despite the wet conditions.

Lap 74/78: Verstappen has just double lapped his team-mate, and main championship rival, Perez.
The latter then comes in for more intermediates. Lando Norris, meanwhile, is three seconds faster than the race leader.

Lap 72/78: Tsunoda is overtaken by both McLarens and then has to use an escape road.
Verstappen meanwhile hits a wall again but is fine. He leads Alonso by 25 seconds.

Russell asks to swap with Hamilton
Lap 65/78: Russell is on the radio asking to swap places with Hamilton to protect him from Leclerc, with the Brit to lose five seconds. Leclerc is 7.1s down anyway so Mercedes say no.
He asks about having a go at Ocon now!
Hulkenberg has been gives a ten-second time penalty now.

Lap 61/78: George Russell has a five second penalty for an unsafe rejoin, which saw him and Perez collide.
Magnussen is now off on the full wets.
Aonso is flying again, taking three seconds off Verstappen in the last lap.
Hulkenberg served his penalty incorrectly.

Lap 59/78: Verstappen is now 22s ahead of Alonso. Ocon is pushing second too!
Magnussen has tried to make it round to the pits but stuck it in a wall. He's tried to pit for full wets. He's got it out though and can carry on.

Lap 57/78: Ferrari are double stacking and the Mercedes pass in the pits! Sainz was almost in the wall!

Lap 36/78: Perez runs into the back of Magnussen but claims the Haas man brake checked him. Stroll has the place back, and Perez is going to come into the pits. It's not gone well for him.

Lap 35/78: Perez has overtaken Stroll off the track after he had moved out the way for Verstappen.
Hamilton is just behind Sainz after he pits. Frustrating for the Brit, but he is closer. They didn't change Sainz wing there.

Lap 33/78: Mercedes bring Hamilton in and they're trying to undercut Ferrari.
Ocon finally pits. It's slow.

I think they're trying to trick Alpine into pitting Ocon ahead of Sainz. Bait has not been taken at the moment.

Lap 26/78: The Ferrari engineers are out again but Sainz is ordered to stay out once again. This is a fantastic mini subplot.
Verstappen, meanwhile, is in a race of his own at the front of the grid. He's 11.5s up on Alonso.

Lap 19/78: Lewis Hamilton ran over the debris from Sainz's car but I think he's fine to carry on. Weird.
We have a takeover! Kevin Magnussen goes down the inside of Logan Sargeant, with Stroll and Perez going past him in quick succession too.

Lap 14/78: Alonso asks his team if he has a puncture and they say no. But the gap to Verstappen is now over five seconds and he's losing significant time every lap.

Lap 13/78: He's not come in, wow. The Ferrari engineers go back in.
It'll be up to the FIA to judge whether that's safe or not but he's losing downforce now and pretty much ruined his race.

Lap 12/78: Sainz has hit Ocon! He was trying to win third place, telling his radio he was going to push, and went for a risky move that did not come off. His front wing is broken, but he stays out! He'll be in this lap I imagine.

Verstappen has a lead of 2.3s at the front with the others falling behind. Perez, notably, is a second-and-a-half quicker than Verstappen, who is cruising, to be honest.

Lap 5/78: Russell has been noted for an incorrect start position. Looks like he was too far forward.
We're as you were in the top six.
Stewards are investigating Sargeant and Hulkenberg touching early on. The latter may get a punishment. Yep, a five-second time penalty.

AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda is starting his 50th race in Formula 1 today.
It's been an up-and-down journey for him so far, but at 23, he has a bright future.
He'll start today in ninth.

Charles Leclerc qualified third on the grid for his home race but received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Lando Norris.
That will make a podium finish hard, but Ocon, Sainz and Hamilton are promoted a place as a result.

Max Verstappen is on pole after what was a flying final sector yesterday, making up nearly 0.3s in that sector to pip Fernando Alonso to top spot.

Fernando Alonso looked set to take his first pole in 174 races but the world champion pulled it out the bag in the third sector of his final lap to secure top spot for the first time in his career.
