Hear from the pole sitter
Max Verstappen, speaking to Sky F1, on his pole position for the Dutch GP:
"It was a very tricky Qualifying. The track surface is quite slippery with the new tarmac. It was all about putting your laps in but staying out of trouble. I think we managed that quite well.
"There was one dry line in some places on the slicks, so we had to risk it a bit, but that last lap was very enjoyable.
"The pressure is always there to perform but when you pull it off it's incredible."

MAX VERSTAPPEN TAKES POLE FOR THE DUTCH GRAND PRIX!
HUGE cheers at Zandvoort as the main man takes pole for the third year in a row.
Lando Norris is second, George Russell is third and Alex Albon is fourth.
What a display from the man of the moment.

This is tense... here we go then

TWO MINUTES TO GO
Expect a frantic finish here.
It's all to play for, that's to be said. Everyone is out on track aside from George Russell and Charles Leclerc watches on trackside on a deckchair.
Alright for some.
One final flying lap to sort out who starts on pole!

15:21
Right, no more red flags, please

15:20
TWO MINUTES UNTIL RESTART
A much swifter tidy up job this time.
So it's eight drivers still out there going for top spot...

15:15
RED FLAG: CHARLES LECLERC IS OUT!
Understeer from the Ferrari driver and he cannons into the wall as his front left wheel is ripped off.
Disaster for Leclerc and another clean up job needed. We wait (again)

Norris and Piastri flying
This track has dried out A LOT now and the race is well and truly on.
McLaren look the most likely at spoling Max Verstappen's day here. Papaya currently 1-2.

Lewis Hamilton on his shock 13th finish
Let's hear from the Mercedes man about what went wrong in Q2.
Hamilton, speaking to Sky Sports F1 on his Q2 exit, said: "I did two fast laps in the end and the tyres overheated, so I couldn't improve on the last lap.
"Hopefully, when the car is heavier maybe we can progress forward in the race. It's not an easy track to move forward on, but tomorrow's a new day and I will give it my best tomorrow."

Still waiting on a restart...
Work continues to restore the barrier that Sargeant smashed into.
Drivers twiddling their thumbs in the pit-lane currently as a Mexican wave sweeps across the grandstands.

RED FLAG: LOGAN SARGEANT HAS CRASHED
Firstly, the young American has told the team he is OK on the radio and he is out of the car.
But Logan Sargeant's first appearance in Q3 has ended with him in the tyre wall.
All on hold while it is cleared up.

14:50
All the talk is about slick tyres
You are no doubt sick of me telling you about this but drivers have seen enough after one out lap and they have pitted for slick tyres.
Expect some rapid lap times now as they fly, particularly through the fast corners.

Q3 IS UNDERWAY!
Right, let's sort our pole sitter... I have a funny feeling it will be Mr Popular in this part of the world.
Just a hunch...

ELIMINATED: Stroll, Gasly, Hamilton, Tsunoda, Hulkenberg
WOW! Lewis Hamilton is OUT!
Firstly, credit to Logan Sargeant for squeezing into Q3 at the final second to push Lance Stroll down into the elimination zone.
But wow, Hamilton is out. That's bitterly disappointing for Mercedes and he didn't even finish the final lap, instead opting to pit as his sector times showed no improvement.
Serious work to do now for him to salvage Sunday's race.

14:37
Alex Albon is on a roll!
The Williams driver is flying around Zandvoort right now and amid all the praise he's getting right now he is backing it up.
His first sector just now was lightning. Currently fastest and he's sticking with inters as his tyre choice. Intriguing.

14:34
FIVE MINUTES TO GO
Alpine's Pierre Gasly and AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda are both in the elimination zone right now but both are back in the pits gathering themselves for a late flurry.
Ferrari's Carlos Sainz is currently bottom of the pile.
Five minutes to go.

A lot to like for the Papaya
We mentioned it before but this track is heating up and clearing up very quickly.
Slicks cannot be far away... the question is, who blinks first?
McLaren still look really, really good as Oscar Piastri just went quickest through the second sector.

14:29
Wait... the sun exists!
This is not an illusion in Zandvoort... the sun is doing its best to peak through.
Max Verstappen gets a huge roar as he goes quickest with a 1.21.921.
George Russell second and Williams' Logan Sargeant is third.

Back underway for Q2
It's quite interesting that teams are having to strategise on the fly here.
Parts of the track have more standing water than others so the idea of slicks right now seems a tad fanciful. But some are definitely contemplating it.
Decisions, decisions, decisions...

14:20
ELIMINATED: Zhou, Ocon, Magnussen, Bottas, Lawson
Real disappointment for Alfa Romeo, with both Guanyu Zhou and Valtteri Bottas eliminated.
The shock of the first elimination is the bitter blow for Alpine, with Esteban Ocon out.
Debutant Liam Lawson finishing, as expected, bottom of the pile.

Lewis Hamilton in real trouble
Corrr, this is getting good. Cars changing positions in the standings with every finisher of a lap.
Tough to call who goes out. Hamilton is in bother here. Real bother.
![]()
14:14
'I got BLOCKED!'
Safe to say Lewis Hamilton wants stewards to take a look at being blocked by one of his Aston Martin rivals.
All getting a bit tetchy now on track with teams fighting for position with a couple of minutes to go in Q1.

14:12
Battle to avoid elimination!
The times are improving by every lap but the bottom five need to improve - and fast.
Logan Sargant, Kevin Magnussen, Valtteri Bottas, Liam Lawson and Niko Hulkenberg, speed up gents.

14:09
Operation 'Stay on track'
Ferrari's Charles Leclerc is now the next to go off.
But I'll tell you what, McLaren and Lando Norris are loving the drizzle. He's quickest with nine minutes remaining of Q1 and doesn't look in any bother.
His team-mate Oscar Piastri is proving no slouch in the rain, either.

14:05
'What the f*** is going on with the car?!'
Well, Max Verstappen, back on track after gliding onto the gravel, is fuming with the state of his car right now.
'It's spinning everywhere,' he says.

14:04
Gravel party
Williams' Alex Albon is first to set the pace as he crosses the line to get us going.
Lots and lots of changes expected as this track is drying out by the lap. Still plenty of spray but every completed lap is drying it out.
Albon also skidded off into the gravel on that first lap, as did Niko Hulkenberg and Max Verstappen. A few hairy moments in Q1 here.

LET'S GET RACING!
A sea of orange have all turned out to great expense to see their man Max Verstappen finish on pole.
Three qualifying sessions ahead of us to find out if their wishes will be granted.

Horner gives Riciardo update
Christian Horner has spoken to Sky Sports to give an update on Daniel Ricciardo's return after he broke his hand.
'Daniel is headed off today to Barcelona and they may even have a little operation on him tomorrow to just tidy up where that break is. It's quite a clean break,' said Horner.
'Then it's about the recuperation and how long that is. Any normal human being would be about 10-12 weeks but we know that these guys aren't normal. So it'll all be about the recovery process and how long that will take: will it be three weeks, will it be a month, will it be six weeks - nobody really knows.'

Will Lewis Hamilton ever sign this new Mercedes contract?
It's been the story that dominated the summer break but there is yet to be official confirmation that Lewis Hamilton's decade with Mercedes will extend for the remainder of his F1 career.
How long will that be, you ask? Well, until he is 42...

F2 RACE IS ABANDONED!
With only 7 corners completed in normal racing conditions... the decision has been made that it is too dangerous to race on.
A real shame for the F2 fans in attendance.

Drivers getting ready... but NOT Daniel Ricciardo!
Daniel Ricciardo's return to Formula One came to a juddering halt on Friday after he broke his wrist in an innocuous-looking crash in practice for the Dutch Grand Prix.
The Australian pranged his AlphaTauri at the steeply banked Turn Three and would have been fine other than for not releasing his grip from the steering wheel on impact with the wall. 'Ah, f***, my hand,' he exclaimed.
Ricciardo was taken to a local hospital, his left arm in a sling. An X-ray revealed a fractured metacarpal in his left hand.
