FISHERS, Ind. — August 19, 2026

Indiana State Police are searching for a driver accused of fatally striking a man who was changing a flat tire along Interstate 69 near Fishers and then leaving the scene Tuesday night.

Emergency dispatchers began receiving calls about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, from people reporting what appeared to be a body near a van on the shoulder of northbound I-69, just south of Exit 210.

First responders found 36-year-old Gregory S. Christopher II of Parker City dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicated Christopher had stopped because his van had a flat tire. Police believe a northbound vehicle struck him while he was outside the van working on the tire. The driver did not remain at the scene.

Detectives believe Christopher may have been stopped along the interstate for nearly 45 minutes before the first 911 calls were received.

Police are asking anyone who traveled north or south on I-69 near mile marker 209 between 8:45 and 9:45 p.m. Tuesday to preserve any dash-camera footage and contact investigators. Police said footage could contain useful information even if it did not capture the crash or the vehicle involved.
