Frank “Bige” Newman

Frank “Bige” Newman, 85, of Harrison, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026.

He was born on June 30, 1941, in Decatur, Tn. He came from a large family and was one of 11 children, growing up with three sisters and seven brothers.

Bige was a devoted member of the Baptist faith and a member of Bayside Baptist Church. His faith, family, hard work, and craftsmanship were important parts of who he was.

A hardworking man throughout his life, Bige spent his career as a control maintenance operator, working at C.F. Industries, Farmers Chemical, and BASF. He took great pride in his work and was known for his dedication, attention to detail, and strong work ethic.

Bige had a remarkable talent for woodworking and was a true craftsman. He created beautiful wooden pieces, including exceptional walking sticks and wooden bowls. He was especially known for his treasured collection of wooden vases, which brought joy and admiration to everyone who saw them. For more than 40 years, Bige participated in numerous craft shows, sharing his talent and craftsmanship with others and forming many lasting memories along the way.

When he wasn't working with wood, Bige could often be found tending his garden. He enjoyed working with his hands, creating things, and watching the fruits of his labor grow.

One of Bige's greatest blessings was being a part of the lives of his seven grandchildren. He treasured the time he spent with each of them and took great pride in watching them grow. Bige also dearly loved his five great-grandchildren. He felt truly blessed to be able to spend time with them, share his love with them, and create special memories together.

Bige loved sharing stories and fond memories of his childhood farm days. Those stories offered a glimpse into the life that shaped him and the values he carried throughout his years. His family will cherish those memories and the stories he shared for generations.

Above all, Bige was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was one of the greatest sources of joy in his life. He will be remembered for his faith, his hardworking spirit, his remarkable craftsmanship, his love of the outdoors, and most of all, the love he gave so freely to his family.

Bige will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Roberta, and seven siblings.

Bige is survived by his wonderful children, Teresa Morgan (Pat), Randy Newman (Kristen) and Bruce Newman (Heather), as well as several grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and three siblings.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 10 a.m.–12 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Sewee Church of God Cemetery in Niota, Tn. at 1:15 p.m.
