Wendell Hubert Gordy

Wendell Hubert Gordy, 83, passed from this life to life everlasting with Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease and cancer.

Born on June 20, 1943, to Hubert Gordy and Nell Peters Gordy, in Ringgold, he was a 1961 graduate of Ringgold High School.

Wendell was a member of Brainerd Baptist Church and its Seekers Life Group. In addition, he enjoyed travel and photography as hobbies, and he was a member of the Photographic Society of Chattanooga and the Georgia Nature Photographers Association. He served six years in the Army Reserves. Wendell retired from DuPont after 34 years of service. After retirement, he pursued advancing his love of photography, and he graduated from Rocky Mountain School of Photography in Missoula, Montana, in 1999. Wendell had photography exhibited locally, nationally, and even in Wuxi, China. He remained the quiet, humble, sweet man who exhibited a Godly life. His faith was very important to him. During his last days, he kept singing out, “Hallelujah.”

Preceding him in death were his father, Hubert Gordy; mother, Nell Peters Gordy Pack; stepfather, Allen Pack; sisters, Shirley Gordy, and Charlotte Avrett (Jim); and brother, Stanley Gordy.

Survivors include Wendell’s loving wife of 61 years, Pat Gordy; daughter, Constance Gordy Jeskey (Brian) of Palm Desert, California; son, Duane Gordy of Flagstaff, Arizona; and Angela Dillard of Harrison, Tennessee, who seems like a family member. He also has several nieces and nephews.

The Chattanooga Funeral Home, Valley View Chapel, is overseeing the arrangements.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Aug. 21, from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home’s Valley View Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, beginning at 11 a.m. at the same location. Burial will be in Ringgold, at the Gordy Cemetery on Saunders Road immediately after the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, you may make donations in his memory either to Brainerd Baptist Church or to the Salvation Army.
