Pinball wizards and video game enthusiasts, and some of the best pinball champions in Canada, and the IFPA (International Flipper Pinball Association), are assembled in Edmonton Thursday through Sunday for all kinds of steel ball banging and supple wrist action.
Cut to The Who’s Tommy. Or the Elton John cover tune. More than 250 pinball machines, 50 classic arcade games, and four IFPA sanctioned pinball tournaments come in the 9th annual incarnation of YEGPIN; going at Millennium Place over the four days.

“It’s a pretty wild time. There are machines here I haven’t seen since my youth, and ones older than myself on the floor,” said 63-year-old Thomas Finkle Thursday.

The next-door Clarion Hotel rooms and lobby were filled with fans, players and more, heading over or headed back themselves to the rolling thunder.

This showcase pinball event at YEGPIN is the Match Play Championship, a showcase of pinball talent featuring players from around the world. It is the one of largest pinball tournaments in the world, featuring 116 pinball machines and as many as 300 players battling over three days to crown a champion.

Pinball pundits online and on the floor Thursday expected names such as Eric Stone a defending IFPA Champion , top performer John Kottmann and high-ranking Canuck Robert Gagno.
