Angela Rippon hit out at TV bosses for 'going woke' - claiming broadcasters have been in decline since the 'magical' seventies.

Legendary presenter Angela, 81, has fronted shows including Top Gear, Come Dancing and Antiques Roadshow.

On Monday (January 26), she joined Eamonn Holmes and Ellie Costello on the pair's GB News breakfast programme.

During the conversation, Angela reflected on working with iconic comedy duo Morecambe & Wise, declaring them 'two of the greatest comics this country has ever produced.'

From there, Eamonn and Ellie proceeded to ask the veteran star about the industry's evolution over the years.

Eamonn, 66, opined: 'I think TV started to dip off slightly after the 70s, I think they were my heyday.

In 2023, Angela competed in Strictly Come Dancing, where she made it to Blackpool Week (pictured with dance partner Kai Widdrington)

'I think a lot of that is to do with what was attainable to us as viewers, we lived in a world that was divorced from the world of TV, and it was magical.'

Meanwhile, Angela brought up how TV has changed - including a difference in how the public consume it.

She said: 'I think the difference was that today we have a plethora of television stations.

'We have an incredible variety to an incredible access of different kinds of television programmes being proved by how many channels?

'I don’t know, it runs into hundreds now, doesn’t it? And I think we probably all think back with nostalgia to the 70s, when there was only one channel, then two, then three, then four, maybe five.'

Angela continued: 'It used to be a watercooler moment.

'That's how it used to be referred to when people would say, "Hey, did you see that on the telly last night?' and I don't think it's that heyday was any different then.

'It was just that everybody watched the same programmes.

'I think the difference these days is, I hate the word, but we now all think there's too much examples of wokeism on television.

'And certainly, the things that if you go on to some of the nostalgic channels and you watch things all of those amazing programmes that there were in the 70s, Fawlty Towers, all of them.

Angela highlighted the much-loved sitcom Fawlty Towers as among the programmes available to viewers in the 70s

'We laugh. But there’s a lot of stuff that we were laughing at then that no television producer would put out now.'

Earlier this month, viewers vowed to switch off the breakfast programme after being left furious over coverage of Brooklyn Beckham and his family feud.

For the January 21 episode, Eamonn and Ellie were joined Charlie Rowley and Clare Muldoon to break down the headlines.

Discussion turned to Brooklyn, 26, who had just taken to Instagram with an explosive statement.

Not all viewers were impressed by the coverage as one wrote: 'Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.'

Another agreed: 'I can’t stand all this Brooklyn stuff, goodbye.'

A third fumed: 'Who gives a monkey's about this spoiled entitled t**t. The world is on the brink of war, and you’re endlessly talking about him. Are you getting money to promote the Beckham name or something….!!!!'

A fourth queried: 'Still talking about this?'
