The driver involved in a crash that killed a 66-year-old woman in Stamford in April has been arrested, police said.
The Stamford Police Department said its Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad has completed its investigation into the April 25 crash at the intersection of Strawberry Hill Avenue and Colonial Road.
A 2014 Toyota pickup truck was traveling south on Strawberry Hill Avenue and made a left turn at the intersection of Colonial Road around 2:04 p.m. At the same time, 66-year-old Stamford resident Evelyn Aponte was crossing Colonial Road in a crosswalk when she was struck by the truck, police said.
Aponte was taken to the hospital and died from her injuries the following day.
Following the investigation, an arrest warrant was approved for the driver, a 50-year-old Stamford man, police said.
Police said the man surrendered at Stamford Police Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon and was charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and making an improper turn.
He was released on a court-ordered written promise to appear in court on Aug. 18.
At the time of the crash, police had issued him an infraction for failing to grant the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The additional charges came on Tuesday.
