The sixth day of competition started at Romania 2026 with four placement matches, as Uruguay secured their maiden win in this edition, against Fiji.
Republic of Korea and Germany were the sides who will complete in the Placement Match 13/14, after winning against Sweden and Slovenia respectively.
Placement Matches 13-16
Republic of Korea vs Sweden 29:25 (14:14)
Germany vs Slovenia 33:24 (17:12)
After conceding losses against Egypt and France from winning positions in the main round, the Republic of Korea went back to their winning ways against Sweden, with a more efficient attacking game.
The balance was there only in the first half between Korea and Sweden, with the two sides deadlocked at 14:14.
Sweden did briefly take the lead, 15:16, but that was cancelled by a Korea 5:0 run, which proved to be the backbone of their win. Minjin Cho had five goals and four assists in the match, as another 6:1 run opened a 26:19 lead after 50 minutes.
Eventually, Korea secured a 29:25 win and will face Germany in the Placement Match 13/14, as Germany produced some of their best handball, after two consecutive losses.
Germany had a better shooting efficiency (69% to 59%) and more goalkeeper saves (35% to 23%), as they took an early lead, had five goals at the break, 17:12, and never looked back against Slovenia.
All but two of Germany’s outfield players scored at least one goal, with Meggan Rusko and Luna Külker scoring at least six goals, jumping to a 33:24 win.
Placement Matches 21-24
Czechia vs Kazakhstan 41:22 (18:10)
For most of the match, Czechia’s goalkeeper, Tereza Skopcová, hovered around the 50% saving efficiency range, providing a springboard for her attackers to score at free will against Kazakhstan.
And this is exactly what they did, using clean fast breaks, where they scored 10 out of the 14 chances they have, to pull away of Kazakhstan in thos match.
Skopcová finished with 24 saves and a 53% saving efficiency, while Linda Máčalová added seven goals for Czechia, which took a 41:22 win and will play for the 21st place.
Placement Matches 29-32
Fiji vs Uruguay 9:55 (5:22)
Uruguay and Fiji were looking for their first wins in the competition and after 15 minutes, it was Fiji’s best display at the 2026 IHF Women’s Youth World Championship, staying close to their opponents for the first time for such a long time.
Midway in the first half, it was 9:5 for Uruguay, but then Fiji could not match the South American side, who scored 21 consecutive goals, to basically run away with the win.
Antonella Marti Gonzalez, Serena Epherre Generali, Fiorella Olmos Jarque and Melina Perez Faraone combined for 23 goals for Uruguay, while the South American side’s goalkeepers had an impressive 70% saving efficiency.
Uruguay secured their maiden win, 55:9, and will head to the Placement Match 29/30, where they are due to face the winner between Uzbekistan and Algeria.
