Sixty-six communities will install a remote surveillance project. The system will have 1,000 cameras throughout the country, which will be installed throughout the year. They are currently operating in Maipú, Antofagasta, Coquimbo, Talca, Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas. 

The Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Rodrigo Delgado, alongside Alfredo Moreno from the Public Works office, Mayor Cathy Barriga and representatives of the Carabineros from the 25th Police Station Maipú presented on the project. “Coming here today is about presenting an explanation of a project we offer, we are committed to and one that will continue to work within all the corresponding technical, administrative and political fronts,” Delgado said.

Delgado highlighted the benefits of the tele surveillance system. Regarding the cameras, he said that they are high resolution with state-of-the-art technology and that the first 30 will go to the Maipú community.

“They are part of a strategic plan of a thousand cameras for all of Chile and 387 for the Metropolitan Region. They meet conditions to strengthen surveillance and remote surveillance in those sectors, which either did not have this technology or possessed obsolete technologies before”. 

The cameras play a preventive role. The material they store is considered proof when facing a complex situation or taking part in legal action against someone who has committed a crime in these areas.
