Gautam Singhania is an Indian businessman who has a net worth of $700 million. Gautam Singhania is best known as the chairman and managing director of the Raymond Group, the century-old Indian conglomerate historically associated with men's suiting and textiles.
Singhania took control of Raymond from his father, Vijaypat Singhania, around the turn of the millennium and spent the following decades reshaping the company. Businesses including steel, cement, and synthetics were sold, while Raymond expanded its apparel operations and moved into areas including real estate, engineering, aerospace, and automotive components.
A major restructuring eventually separated the group into three publicly traded companies: Raymond Lifestyle, which contains the clothing and textile businesses; Raymond Realty; and Raymond Ltd., which is focused primarily on engineering, automotive components, aerospace, and defense.
Singhania is also known in India for his enthusiasm for exotic cars, motorsports, aviation, and yachts. His personal life attracted considerable attention following disputes with his father and, later, a highly publicized separation from his wife, Nawaz Modi Singhania.
Early LifeGautam Hari Singhania was born on September 9, 1965, into the prominent Singhania industrial family. His father, Vijaypat Singhania, eventually became chairman of Raymond, which the family had controlled since acquiring Raymond Woollen Mills in the 1940s.
Gautam attended schools in Mumbai and later studied commerce at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics.
He joined the family's JK Group in 1986 and became a director of Raymond in 1990. Gautam was elevated to managing director in 1999 and became chairman the following year as Vijaypat stepped back from day-to-day control.
RaymondRaymond was already one of India's best-known textile companies when Singhania took charge, famous for its suiting fabrics and "The Complete Man" advertising campaign.
Under Gautam, the company shed several businesses that he considered non-core and concentrated on consumer brands, apparel, textiles, and businesses with stronger growth potential. Raymond's clothing portfolio came to include brands such as Park Avenue, ColorPlus, Ethnix, and Raymond Made to Measure.
In 2023, Raymond sold its consumer-care business, which included the Park Avenue deodorant business and KamaSutra sexual wellness products, to Godrej Consumer Products for ₹2,825 crore.
The group subsequently underwent a much larger transformation. Raymond Lifestyle was separated and independently listed in 2024. The group's rapidly growing real estate operation was then spun off as Raymond Realty and separately listed in 2025.
Following those transactions, the wider Raymond Group consisted of three major listed businesses: lifestyle, real estate, and engineering.
Raymond Stake and Family FortuneMuch of Singhania's wealth can be traced to his family's controlling interest in Raymond.
In 2015, his father transferred Gautam interests in two family investment companies that collectively controlled approximately 37% of Raymond. The stake was worth roughly ₹1,041 crore at the time.
That transfer became central to a bitter falling-out between father and son. Vijaypat later publicly claimed that he regretted turning over control of his Raymond holdings and accused Gautam of failing to honor arrangements involving the family's residence at JK House. Gautam disputed his father's characterization of their disagreements.
The subsequent separation of Raymond into three listed companies makes Singhania's fortune easier to analyze than it was historically. The Singhania promoter group continues to hold substantial stakes in Raymond Ltd., Raymond Lifestyle, and Raymond Realty.

Singhania is an avid motorsports enthusiast and has competed in races himself. He founded the Super Car Club of India and has owned an extensive collection of exotic and high-performance automobiles.
His collection over the years has included cars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and other luxury manufacturers. He has also been involved in aviation and yachting and became known as one of India's most visible billionaire-style industrialists during the peak of the Raymond family's fortune.
Personal LifeGautam married Nawaz Modi in 1999 after the couple had been together for several years. They have two daughters.
In November 2023, Gautam announced that he and Nawaz were separating after more than three decades together. Reports surrounding the split claimed Nawaz was seeking a settlement tied to a substantial portion of the family's assets.
The dispute became extremely public, but by 2025, Indian business press reported that Gautam and Nawaz had reconciled and returned to living together at JK House. The couple did not publicly disclose the financial terms of their reconciliation.
Singhania has also experienced vitiligo, a condition that causes loss of skin pigmentation, and has spoken publicly about living with it.
