According to a team announcement, the New York Rangers have signed defenseman Scott Morrow to a one-year contract.

The contract, a two-way deal, will pay him $850,000 at the NHL level with an AHL salary of $125,000, according to Puckpedia.

The 23-year-old finished his 2025-26 season, registering six assists in 29 games with the Rangers in the NHL. He added five goals for 19 points in 34 AHL games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he spent the majority of his season. He averaged 0.56 points per game with the Wolf Pack, which was first among defensemen on the team, and his five goals also tied for first among Hartford defensemen in scoring.

Morrow saw that the majority of his NHL time this past season was during a severe Rangers lull. In between his three separate call-up stints, the Rangers managed 13 wins in 40 games from Morrow’s first game on November 16th, all the way through to his final game in his third recall from Hartford before being permanently sent back to finish his season there after February 28th in 2026.

The former 2021 second-round pick hasn’t exactly been able to muster up a stretch of legitimate NHL time, especially considering he played in a stretch when the Rangers threw in the towel on their season, where they finished at the bottom of the league’s barrel.

In 45 career NHL games through three seasons with the Rangers and the Carolina Hurricanes, the former 40th overall pick has registered one goal and 11 assists for 12 points. Morrow was originally acquired as part of the return in the trade that sent K’Andre Miller to the Carolina Hurricanes in July of 2025. Before New York, the 6-foot-2 defenseman registered 39 points, fourth on Carolina’s AHL club, the Chicago Wolves, in 2024-25.

The Connecticut native is known best for his puck-moving ability, which was demonstrated in his stints before professional hockey at Shattuck St. Mary’s and later at UMass in the NCAA, racking up three consecutive 20-assist campaigns with the Minutemen in Hockey East.

New York has $2.4MM in cap space remaining with a need to address fellow right-shooting defenseman Vincent Iorio. Morrow and Iorio were two of five righties who saw NHL time last season, with Adam Fox (55 GP) and Braeden Schnieder (82 GP) seeing the most games. Despite losing William Borgen, Drury added Sean Durzi to the Rangers’ depth chart, so as of now, more NHL time looks unlikely for Morrow unless he’s in as a depth/fill-in piece.
