Are you a die-hard PC gamer who has always felt the allure of titles like Nintendo’s Star Fox? Look no further than Wild Blue Skies, a brand new flight-style shooter for Steam.
What’s It Like?Overall, the art style is what caught my attention first. It’s very similar to cel-shaded anime of the time period that the game is inspired by, and overall it’s just very aesthetically pleasing to look at. The colors are highly saturated, which makes for a very interesting visual representation in general.
This also pairs nicely with the character designs of Bowie and his team members, who all look perfectly distinct from one another. I do like the inclusion of a female character on the team, as it rounds out what other similar games might be lacking. A good variety of characters is what keeps things interesting for me first and foremost, so this was something else I really liked to see.
I did struggle with the controls slightly at first. I was playing with a keyboard and mouse instead of a controller, and the mouse controls in particular seem to be a bit twitchy. But the inclusion of familiar controls like strafing to the left and right or boosting did help the gameplay along significantly. I had to rematch the boss at the end of the stage a few times, but I eventually was able to get a handle on the controls and beat the demo.
I only played the demo version of Wild Blue Skies, but I would be interested to see where the story progresses from the first mission. Seeing the goals of the characters and how they continue to interact with one another throughout subsequent missions is key for those who enjoy the story aspects of a game like this, along with the playability in general. As someone who enjoys character development myself, I would definitely say I am curious to see where the studio takes these characters in the future.

Overall, Wild Blue Skies is a great PC-friendly option for those who are fans of Star Fox, with an eclectic cast of characters and lots of potential for future missions if more are added in updates. Pick up the full game on Steam today and check it out for yourself!
