Lorraine's Dr Hillary Jones revealed that he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance after a terrifying heart attack scare that left him fearing for his life while on Tuesday's episode of the ITV show.

The 72-year-old appeared in the studio alongside Lorraine Kelly, 66, to open up about his recent health diagnosis. 

Dr Hilary explained: 'I had this virus that is going around, that everybody else seems to have had, and I had a little bit of pneumonia and pericarditis, which is the inflammation of the membrane around your heart.

'It was quite painful, and I wasn't sure what it was at first... but this excellent pair of paramedics came around, the ECG (Electrocardiography) said I had a heart attack. 

'I hadn't. Then we analysed the trace together, and diagnosed pericarditis.'

'Pericarditis is inflammation of the lining around your heart, which causes chest pain,' the National Health Service website states.

Meanwhile they state that a heart attack is 'a serious medical emergency in which the supply of blood to the heart is suddenly blocked, usually by a blood clot.'

The NHS also describe pneumonia as: 'inflammation of the lungs, usually caused by an infection.'

He continued: 'They were really good. A 21-year-old guy and a slightly older lady, they were brilliant. 

'I was blue lighted into hospital.'

Lorraine confessed: 'That must have been really weird for you?!'

He replied: 'They thought it was weird as well. It's Dr Hilary! But the hospital were great as well. They were inundated with patients but they were calm.

'It all got sorted.' 

Lorraine asked: 'And you are okay? We were worried.'

'Absolutely,' Dr Hilary reassured her. 

The telly star confessed: 'I was very, very worried. 

'You know when you hear and get a message saying you know, "Hilary has been blue lighted"... I felt better after talking to you. You're okay!'

Dr Hilary then touched upon Lorraine's recent heartbreak after losing her dad. 

On January 10 the TV presenter revealed her father John had died at the age of 84. 

She made the heartbreaking announcement on Instagram as she shared a photo of herself with her dad alongside an emotional tribute. 

Dr Hilary said: 'Absolutely. Absolutely. I know you've had your trials and tribulations. We were in touch together, weren't we?' 

Lorraine replied: 'So many people have. I think this time of year, it's a strange one.'

On Monday Lorraine returned to her show for the first time on Monday after the devastating death of father.  

Last week, Christine Lampard, 46, stepped in for Lorraine and spoke to the likes of Gareth Gates, 41, Fred Sirieix, 53, and Alan Titchmarsh, 76, in the studio.

Talking on the show, she said: 'I'm okay. I'll tell you what, everybody's messages, cards, you know, you've all been so kind.

'Everybody here, of course, it is like a family, have been amazing, you just have to go through the process.

'Anybody that's been there knows how tough it is.

'But it really does help, you see the real kindness in people, and that has been lovely.'
